Finding the Mister Lincoln Rose
We found the Mister Lincoln Rose at our favorite nursery in Oklahoma City. They have a beautiful rose selection that I didn’t even know about until this year! I was walking around looking at the roses. My husband pointed to this deep red rose bush. We knew it would be perfect for our front landscaping. Then when I smelled the rose I grabbed another one!
History of the Mister Lincoln Rose
Mister Lincoln was bred by Herbert Swim and Weeks Rose growers in 1964. Promptly in 1965 he won the All-American Rose selection award. He grows strong and upright with massive red blooms. One of my favorite things about him is that his petals hold their color even in the Oklahoma sun! I have never tried this but some people say that the Mister Lincoln rose is perfect for making Rose Water. The Mister Lincoln is an overall healthy plant but he is susceptible to black spot. I sprayed copper on him every 3 weeks or so. I’ll write more about fungicides in an upcoming blog post soon!
Planting Mister Lincoln
We planted the Mister Lincoln rose right out front and he has showed off ever since! He has grown so fast and we get spoiled with large, beautiful red velvet blooms!
